According to a source in the know about Apple’s sales figures, MacRumors reported that approximately 200,000 Vision Pro headsets have been sold since preorders became available.
The headset, set to officially hit the US market this Friday, sold out fast for those who preordered. It was up for grabs starting at 8 a.m. ET on January 19th, and in just a few hours, the shipping dates got pushed from February to March. Apple supply chain expert Min-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities had earlier guessed that Apple moved around 160,000 to 180,000 Vision Pro headsets. This estimate was based on the preorder stock and shipping timelines.
Kuo nailed it by foreseeing the quick sellout of the headset, pointing to a smaller initial shipment and the hefty price tag. Later on, he mentioned that a closer look at the preorder shipping times, which initially slipped but then stabilized, hinted that the demand for these devices had tapered off.
Kuo mentioned that, at the moment, the Vision Pro is still “niche,” and he expects the demand to drop off swiftly once the die-hard fans get their orders in.
Apple reps didn’t get back to Business Insider right away when they reached out for a comment, and this was outside regular working hours. The Vision Pro marks Apple’s first venture into a new product category since the introduction of the Apple Watch back in 2014.
This gadget is a mixed-reality headset designed to blend the user’s virtual experience seamlessly with their actual surroundings. Initial reviews for the headset have generally been positive, though the hefty $3,500 price has certainly caught people’s attention.
Apple is gearing up for its most significant hardware release in ten years with the Vision Pro. Stores have been getting ready for this launch for months, and they’re even offering free demos for anyone eager to test out the tech.
