BYD Seal, the company’s next premium product for the Indian market has been spotted in Chennai during a test run. Captured by Autocar India, the premium electric sedan is reported for an official launch in early March 2024. Autocar India mentions that the dealers have started accepting pre-bookings for the premium sedan.
First introduced at Auto Expo 2023, the Seal will be BYD’s most premium electric vehicle in India. Unlike the Atto 3 and E6 MPV, the Seal is a luxury sedan with a very sporty exterior and tech-heavy interiors. Rated 5 stars on Euro NCAP, the sedan’s design seems to offer a blend of Kia EV6 and Tesla Model S.
BYD Seal has been designed on the company’s X design concept that focuses on style and performance. The electric sedan is 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide, and 1,460mm tall. The BYD Seal stands out with its cutting-edge features, making it a noteworthy contender in the electric vehicle market.
The 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen at the center console offers a user-friendly interface, enhancing the driving experience. Indian consumers will appreciate the massive panoramic sunroof, while the HIFI Dynaudio Premium Sound system, with 12 state-of-the-art speakers, ensures unparalleled acoustic performance. The distinctive double U-shaped light clusters and dot matrix taillight shape provide a stereo effect, adding a touch of sophistication.
Inside, the integrated sports seats prioritize comfort, featuring electrically adjustable, heated front seats. With a spacious 400L trunk and an additional 53L in the front, the BYD Seal offers ample storage. Charging is remarkably quick, taking just 26 minutes (30% to 80%) with a DC capacity of 150kW. The electric motor’s 390kW power enables the four-wheel drive version to accelerate from 0-100km/h in an impressive 3.8 seconds.
Upon launch, the electric sedan will compete with the high-end Kia EV6, Hyundai Ionic, Volvo C40 Recharge, and EVs priced around Rs. 60 lakhs. BYD Seal’s starting price is expected to be around Rs. 50 lakhs. Though dealers have started accepting bookings, deliveries will commence only after the official launch of the sedan in India.
BYD has also trademarked the ‘Dolphin‘ name in India for its upcoming electric MPV. The 5-Star rated EV will be the company’s third electric vehicle in India and will be a direct rival of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV. The Dolphin will focus on space, and practicality and will offer 345L boot space, expandable to a capacious 1,310L through the flexible 60:40 split rear seats.
Dolphin’s price could start at Rs. 18 lacs and go up to Rs. 28 lacs. It will be one of the most feature-equipped electric MPVs upon its launch in India.
