OnePlus Open gets official reveal; strikingly similar to Oppo Find N3

OnePlus has started its hype-building campaign for its first foldable phone, the OnePlus Open, by revealing it on a YouTube unboxing video and it looks very much like the Oppo Find N3. There is a reason why the two phones look similar.
During an interview with Lewis George Hilsenteger on the Unbox Therapy YouTube channel, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau confirmed that the OnePlus Open is jointly developed by OnePlus and Oppo.
“This folding phone is jointly developed by the OPPO team and the OnePlus team. Because we want to create a synergy and bring the best of the two teams together. Both teams have accumulated strong experience, and this folding phone will have a different go-to-market strategy in different regions so that more users will be able to have their hands on this device,” Lau said.
According to a report by The Verge, it is in fact the same phone. It said that these brands will launch the same foldable phone with different brand names, as the Oppo Find N3 is likely to be limited to China.
While based on the Oppo Find N2, the OnePlus Open features a new hinge system. It is lighter but stronger and is confirmed to be made with fewer components.
Lau also confirmed that the OnePlus Open will deliver the same fast and smooth experience for which the brand is known and it will include the iconic alert slider.
Currently, OnePlus is only focusing on large-screen foldable smartphones and don’t have any plans to launch a flip-style foldable device, similar to the Oppo Find N2 Flip.
The upcoming phone is likely to feature a circular camera island with Hasselblad tuning. The phone is likely to launch soon in India as Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma was recently seen carrying the foldable device.
According to a report by GSMArena, the OnePlus Open will come with a 7.82-inch primary foldable display and a 6.31-inch cover display with minimal crease and almost zero hinge gap.
The OnePlus Open is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, with up to 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.
