In a surprising turn of events, OnePlus 12R users are left disillusioned and demanding a full refund following the revelation that the company’s latest flagship handset, touted to feature cutting-edge UFS 4.0 storage technology, is, in reality, equipped with the older UFS 3.1 storage.

This unexpected discrepancy has triggered a wave of discontent among users, who now question OnePlus’s transparency and the integrity of its marketing claims. The unfolding saga underscores the increasing importance of accuracy and clarity in the tech industry, as users are becoming more discerning and vocal about their expectations.

During the much-anticipated launch of the OnePlus 12R, the company proudly declared the incorporation of UFS 4.0 storage technology in its latest flagship handset. However, it has come to light that the smartphone is, in fact, equipped with the older UFS 3.1 storage, a detail that has left users feeling deceived.

The significant disparity between UFS 4.0 and UFS 3.1 lies in the storage speed, with the former boasting twice the speed and greater power efficiency compared to the latter. This revelation sparked a wave of discontent among users, particularly on Twitter, where grievances poured in, demanding transparency and a solution.

Recognizing the depth of user disappointment, OnePlus issued an apology for the misleading marketing or inadvertent error. The company sought to reassure users by stating that the UFS 3.1 storage on the OnePlus 12R mirrors the capabilities of the OnePlus 11 series, providing commendable speed and the ability to retain applications in memory for 72 hours.

However, users found this explanation insufficient and questioned the reasoning behind certifying the OnePlus 12R with TUV SUD for a fluid performance over 48 months. Many users argue that this certification does not justify the deviation from the initially advertised UFS 4.0 storage.

Acknowledging its misstep, OnePlus has taken corrective action and is now offering a refund to buyers of the OnePlus 12R 256GB variant.

Kinder Liu, the president and COO of OnePlus, stated, “If you’ve received a OnePlus 12R 256GB variant (review) and want to discuss the situation with the file system type on your phone, please contact Customer Service through your usual channel. They will be able to discuss the next steps with you, up to and including a refund until 16th March 2024.”

To initiate the refund process, users are required to contact customer care services before March 16, 2024. This one-month window allows users ample time to seek recourse if they wish to retrieve their money and reconsider their smartphone choices.

The incident serves as a reminder of the growing demand for transparency in the tech industry and the consequences when consumer expectations are not met.
