Samsung has officially confirmed the launch date of the much anticipated Galaxy S24 Series. The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event will begin at 11.30 pm IST (1.00 pm EST) on Wednesday, January 17 at the SAP in San Jose, California. The launch event will be live-streamed via the company’s Newsroom site as well as its YouTube channel.
Samsung’s tagline for the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event ‘Galaxy AI is coming’, hints at the upcoming Generative AI capabilities of the Galaxy S24 Series smartphones. In the words of Samsung, “The new Galaxy S series will set a higher standard for the most intelligent mobile experience yet”. It is also teased to provide “an all-new mobile experience powered by AI”.
It is expected that all three smartphones in the series- Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature an on-device AI model capable of performing AI computations locally.
To enable such native AI capabilities, the underlying hardware has to be powerful enough to run billions of parameters on-device. This shouldn’t be a problem for the Galaxy S24 series as the devices are most likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC or Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2400 SoC in select countries.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC is capable of running up to 10 billion parameters on-device and LLM models at up to 20 tokens per second, removing the need to rely on the cloud for inferencing. It can also use Stable Diffusion on-device and is also capable of generating images in less than a second, without connecting to the internet.
All three devices will flaunt 120Hz AMOLED screens, multi-lens camera setups, and up to 45W fast charging. The Galaxy S24 series will also introduce the new One UI 6.1.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is poised to steal the spotlight as the frontrunner for the best Android flagship. Set to debut in a sleek Titanium shell, it’s expected to boast a dazzling 6.8-inch Dynamic 2X 120Hz AMOLED display. What sets it apart is the powerhouse quad-lens camera, featuring a jaw-dropping 200MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto sensor with up to 3x Optical zoom, and a 50MP sensor with 5x Optical zoom.
