Rumour mills are abuzz about the upcoming Apple iPhone 15, and if they are to be believed the next iPhone might up the ante against Android big leaguers with universal USB-C charging.
As the days pass, rumors are heating up about what this new phone will offer and how it will look. Let’s take a look:
USB Type-C Charging
According to reports, Apple may have finally decided to bow down to regulatory bodies across the world by adopting USB Type-C charging in its next phones.
In India, a USB Type-C port for charging has been made mandatory and device manufacturers have given a deadline of March 2025. Similarly, the European Union has also asked device manufacturers to ensure that phones have Type C chargers by December 2024.
With the latest series, Apple is likely to say goodbye to the exclusive Lightning charger that it introduced in 2012 with the launch of the iPhone 5.
All four models – Basic, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max – in the latest series will likely have Type C charging. More than design change, the switch is also in accordance with the law change in India and the European Union.
Type C is a universally used charging cable that is not just used in phones but also in laptops and other portable devices.
Slick, and Light Design
Against the usual stainless steel or aluminum frames, the new series could have titanium frames in the Pro and Pro Max models. These will not just make the phone lighter but also stronger.
However, the basic and plus models may likely have the aluminum frame same as the previous iPhone 14 version. It has been a long pending demand to make the Pro models lighter.
Apple may also aim to make the screen appear larger by thinning down on bezels using a new technology called low-injection pressure over-molding, or LIPO.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new process will help shrink the bezel size around the display to 1.5 millimeters from about 2.2 millimeters on current iPhones.
With this, we can expect to see a 6.1-inch screen size on the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, and then a 6.7-inch screen on the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Dynamic Island for all
This might be the year when all iPhone 15 models get the fancy Dynamic Island Apple launched last year with the iPhone 14 Pro models.
The Dynamic Island is an oval-shaped notch at the top of the screen to hide the selfie camera cutout and Face ID sensors.
